Alternative Meeting Types

Page history last edited by Joe Walling 1 year, 7 months ago
  1. Besides the standard class room style meetings, there are a variety of alternative type meetings.
  2. Brainstorming
  3. Panels
    1.        3 or 4 knowledgeable people – different perspectives is good
    2.        Have a list of some questions
    3.        Possibly give the list of questions to speakers
    4.        Set ground rules up front as far as not being derogatory. Constructive criticism is OK.
  4. Fish bowls – 4 chairs filled with 3 experts and an empty chair. Someone comes up to ask a question from the 4th chair. This means that someone has to leave. If no one is ready to leave, the person that was there the longest must leave.  No questions can be asked unless you are in a chair.
  5. Script clubs- somebody has a problem and 1 or more people help them figure it out. Typically, this is done as part of a larger group with multiple breakouts.
  6. Hackathon- goal to have some features developed.
  7. Master mind – small group sessions running outside your main meetings.
  8. Birds of a feather
  9. Open spaces – everyone writes their idea on a note card or post it. They get put up on wall. Everyone then goes up to wall and marks the ones they are interested in. The ones with the most votes gets covered. If you get tired of a topic, you can move on to another one. You can use that as a fail-safe in the event a presenter does not show up.
  10. Member topics/lightening talks
  11. Hands on labs/test fest
  12. Ignite – 5 min talk 20 slides with 15 sec per slide.
  13. Virtual meeting
  14. Hybrid/virtual meeting
  15. Social meeting – nerd dinner
